Australian Yearling Cow Djembe Discs
AU $38.00 – AU $127.00
Premium Australian Yearling hide discs in your choice of size and thickness. Discs come with hair on, or we can hand shave for you. Yearlings are young cows. Their hides are thinner than standard cow hides and are perfect for djembe.
Generally speaking, cow skins are thicker than goat and have a warmer quality to them. As this type of skin is thicker, it is recommended for more experienced drummers – it can be hard on the hands for new players
Suitable for: Djembe, conga, bongo and bougarabou. Please see our Australian Cow Discs for dunun.
About Disc Sizes
A 12″ disc is suitable for a 12″ drum; the actual diameter of the hide itself will be larger than 12″ to allow room for skinning.
A quick guide to choosing the right skin:
- Thinner skins tend to be more responsive. Their sounds are higher and brighter and easier on the hands
- Medium skins are well balanced with warm tones and bright slaps
- Thick skins are very rich and warm sounding. They take longer to play in, but once settled they have a very melodic quality
We always take extra care in choosing skins that are free from faults and will go the distance on your drum.
Please understand however that as a natural product from the wild, we can never pick up 100% of the inherent defects as they can be invisible to the naked eye. Check out our skins warranty here, and scroll down to “Skins purchased from African Drumming.
