Our Kente Series Djembe Shells are hand-carved in Ghana by expert woodworkers. The timber used is medium-density Twenaboa. The Ghanaian interior carving style is modern, and draws from other West-African styles. As a result, Ghanaian djembes tend to have big dynamic range. Bright slaps and deep bass are the signature sounds of a Ghana djembe. Carvers add their own artistic flair to the external carvings. For example, some use traditional Adinkra symbology. On the other hand, some carvers prefer abstract geometric designs. These are the same shells we use to build our Ghana Series Djembes. To top these premium Ghana shells off, they are protected with embossed metal wrap around the base of the pipe, and inlaid with colourful Ghanaian Kente cloth. All shells come with rings to fit.
