Our hair on goat disks are all Australian farmed and feral goats, they tend to be thicker in nature than African skins with more oils.
As a result they tend to have more stretch in them and take a little longer to play in

About Disc Sizes
A 12″ disc is suitable for a 12″ djembe; the diameter of the hide itself will be slightly larger than 12″ to allow room for skinning.

A quick guide to choosing the right skin

  •     Thinner skins tend to be more responsive. Their sounds are higher and brighter. They are easier on the hands and more suited to new players
  •     Medium skins are well balanced with warm tones and bright slaps
  •     Thick skins are very rich and warm sounding. They take longer to play in, but once settled they have a very melodic quality

We always take extra care in choosing skins that are free from faults and will go the distance on your drum.
Please understand however that as a natural product from the wild, we can never pick up 100% of the inherent defects as they can be invisible to the naked eye.

Tips for storing/ working with skins

  • Store them in a dry well-ventilated place that is not too hot or cold.
  • Make sure they are free from bugs / rodents etc
  • Don’t soak them for too long (more than 5 hours) as this can weaken the skin
  • Don’t soak them in hot water
