They are all covered under our full Warranty so you can rest assured that their little scars and knocks will never affect your djembe experience. Second Gradies are unique drums with a little extra character. Some are gently pre-loved, most are brand new. They can come from anywhere in our Ghana, Primo, or Master Series, and we guarantee that their sound quality is not affected. What you get is an amazing deal on a fantastic, reliable djembe for life!
This African djembe was carved from Twenaboa in Ghana. Twenaboa is a medium density timber, lighter than hardwoods. These shells tend to have great bass ranges and offer great portability. Ghanaian carving styles usually result in twenaboa drums with low bass and strong slaps.
About the Hide
Thinner goat skins produce resonant bass notes and very bright crisp sounds that lend themselves to soloing. They are also softer on the hands.
Medium goat skins are well balanced with warm tones and bright slaps. They are versatile and suit just about any drum.
Thick skins are rich and warm and once settled they have a very melodic quality. Better suited to drums with denser and/or thicker walls.
Cow skins are typically a lot thicker than goat, offering rich melodic sounds. Cranked tightly, they can really scream! Suited to experienced players with tougher hands and well-developed technique.
Yearling skins (3-9month cow) are a great middle ground between cow and goat. Offering a little bit of warmth and a bit of bite too in the top end, these young cow skins are fast becoming super popular with djembefola.
