Gudu Scale – (D), A, C, D, E, F, G, A
The Gudu handpan sits in a natural minor scale, and a variation on the D Integral tuning. In the gudu scale, the A# is removed, and a G added between the F and A tones. The resulting balance places more emphasis on the higher register of the scale, lightening the mood somewhat while retaining the overall character of the D minor scale.
Comes with a padded carry backpack.
Our Master Series Handpans are made from first grade pressed iron and have a larger volume, to help their resonance. Extra time is taken to tune higher sympathetic frequencies, resulting in a more harmonically balanced instrument.
The handpan is a new and mysterious instrument, distantly related in principle to the steelpan of Trinidad and Tobago, but inspired in sound by the Hang of Switzerland. Played by hand, rather than sticks or mallets, the handpan has a rich, intimate sound, full of emotion. There is no specific technique or style in the art of playing a handpan. A player with patience and an open mind and will be rewarded with deep layers of complexity to explore.
