More Details

Hand woven in the Bolgatanga region of Northern Ghana from elephant reed harvested from rich flood plains. Using the same technique as the famous Bolga baskets, these hand percussion instruments are traditionally played along side drummers and were thought to ward off evil spirits.

Traditionally named Caxixi (ca-she-she), they are usually played in pairs.

Please note that as these are handmade no two Kiss Kass shakers are identical. Pictures are provided for reference; colours vary

A great percussion instrument for the little aspiring musician or makes a lovely decor piece at home.

kiss kass african shakerMeet Abampaka, who weaves kiss kass shakers.
“Weaving was not my thing until I got married and got to my husband’s house, and saw my mother-in-law and her daughters engaged in basket weaving. I was excited when my mother-in-law asked me to join them. I learnt quickly and ever since I have not stopped weaving.
I weave the Kiss Kass shakers all the time, because before I weave I already have buyers, unlike the other baskets which I have to take to the market each market day to find a buyer.
Basket weaving has helped my family a lot. My husband and I are both weavers, weaving is our only source of income”.
