A cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front face with the hands. Slaves of west and central African origin in the Americas, specifically Peru, are considered to be the source of the cajón.

Designed by Tawanda and hand built in Victoria, this cajon is played between the legs like bongos and has two chambers inside. It has distinct bass and tone notes with cutting slaps. Three pairs of internal jingles add texture and can be muted with wing nuts.  This cajon can also be played on your lap like an udu and is made of solid maple, with a bamboo bottom and birch top.
